Skill Requirements

Shift Requirements: Timely, Correct, Smooth, Fast.

Timely: Master the correct shifting time, that is, do not increase the gear too early, and do not decrease the gear too late.

Correct: The clutch pedal, accelerator pedal, and gear lever must be correct and coordinated, and their positions must be accurate.

Smooth: After shifting to a new gear, promptly release the clutch pedal.

Fast: Action should be taken quickly to shorten the shifting time, reduce the loss of the car's kinetic energy, and decrease fuel consumption.

Manual Shifting

For manual transmission cars, the importance of the clutch cannot be ignored. When driving, except in other situations where the car needs to start at low speed, shift gears, and brake, do not press the clutch or rest your foot on the clutch pedal.

At the start. Quickly lift the pedal when raising it; when the clutch is in a half-engaged state (at this time, the engine sound changes), the speed of lifting the pedal is slightly slower; from engagement to full engagement, slowly lift the pedal on the clutch pedal while gradually pressing down the accelerator pedal according to the engine's resistance to ensure a smooth start of the car.

When shifting. During driving, when shifting gears, the clutch pedal should be quickly pressed down and lifted to avoid half-engagement, otherwise it will accelerate the wear of the clutch. Additionally, pay attention to the coordination with the accelerator during operation. To ensure smooth shifting and reduce wear on the transmission's shifting mechanism and the clutch, the "two-foot clutch shifting method" is proposed. Although this method is more complex to operate, it is a good way to save money through driving.

Correct use when braking. In car driving, except for low-speed braking where the clutch pedal needs to be pressed to stop, in other situations, try not to press the clutch pedal.
